TV One hosted the 22nd ABFF Film Festival recently in Miami. The star-studded festival took place earlier this month once again in sun-drenched Miami where it held panel discussions, film screenings and a screenplay competition of which the winner will have their screenplay made into a movie by TV one. Among the highlights was the premiere of two of the 2017 screenplay competition finalists’ movies Down for Whatever and Original Movie Dinner for Two.
Last year’s ABFF (American Black Film Festival) Screenplay Competition winner Tim Folsome saw a dream realized when TV One screened the movie Down For Whatever from his screenplay. The film is TV One’s first original fast-paced action movie. It tells the story of a young female doctor (LeToya Luckett) who learns that her newly found biological teen sisters (Bre-Z and Imani Hakim) are ruthless cop killers who are being hunted by her detective husband played by Hosea Chanchez.
Down For Whatever stars LeToya Luckett, Hosea Chanchez, Bre-Z and Imani Hakim. Folsome and producer Eric Tomosunas of Swirl Films attended the screening. The screening was followed by a Q&A moderated by TV One’s Sr. Director of Programming and Production Jubba Seyyid. The original film is slated to premiere on TV One on Sunday, July 22 at 7 p.m. ET/6 C.
There was also a special advanced screening of the upcoming movie drama Dinner For Two. Starring Tristan ‘Mack’ Wilds and Chaley Rose, and written and directed by Orlando Bishop, Dinner For Two tells the complicated love story about life and sacrifice of Chris (Tristan ‘Mack’ Wilds) who prepares for his “last supper” by recreating a favorite dish he
shared with his once beloved Angela (Chaley Rose). Bishop and producers Nicole Dow and Eric Tomosunas (Swirl Films) came together for a Q&A discussion after the screening. Dinner For Two is scheduled to premiere on TV One Sunday, September 2 at 7p.m. ET 6 CT.
Another highlight of the festival was Cadillac Welcome Luncheon at ABFF: Black Hollywood Now where panelists LeToya Luckett and Grammy nominated singer/actor Tristan “Mack” Wilds discussed the ups and downs of navigating the path to stardom in Hollywood. Allison McGevna, VP of Women’s Lifestyle for Hello Beautiful and Madame Noire moderated the panel.
