The 39th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards, aka the “greatest night in gospel,” premiered on August 3 on the Stellar TV and Sunday, August 4 on BET. If you missed it, not to worry, the Stellar Gospel
Music Awards will air in broadcast syndication beginning August 10 through September 8.
Co-hosted Emmy Award winning TV personality Loni Love and TV/Radio host and comedian Rickey Smiley, The Stellar Gospel Music Awards, a celebration of faith and music, was taped at the Orleans Arena in scorching hot Las Vegas, NV, on July 20, 2024. The 100+ degree temperatures did not stop the brightest stars in gospel music and Hollywood celebs from coming out for a night of powerful inspiring performances and heartfelt tributes.
Those uplifting performances included: Chandler Moore, Karen Clark Sheard, Kierra Sheard, Anthony Brown and group therAPy, Da’ T.R.U.T.H, Deitrick Haddon, Israel Houghton, Kelontae Gavin, Koryn Hawthorne, Lisa Knowles-Smith, Mali Music, Melvin Crispell III, Rich Tolbert Jr., and Ricky Dillard. And on the Emerging Artist Stage was Arthur and Friends Community Choir, Jovonta Patton and Wendi Wyatt. Kirk Franklin, Erica Campbell, VaShawn Mitchell, Pastor Mike Todd, JJ Hairston, Maurette Brown Clark, Carvin Winans and Angel Taylor will serve as presenters.
Without giving everything away, Tye Tribbett and Jekalyn Carr led the way in Stellar wins. Tribbett, won multiple accolades, including Album, Song, and Artist of the Year. He was also an among the night’s honorees. This year’s honorees included Kim Burrell, who received the prestigious Aretha Franklin Icon Award, and putting a cherry on top of the night for artist and pastor Tye Tribbett, he was honored with the James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award.
In a poignant moment, Kim Burrell addressed the LGBTQ+ community, offering an apology while seeking to build a bridge of hope and understanding. Her heartfelt words aimed at fostering reconciliation and unity underscored the evening’s theme of love and acceptance.
The 39th Stellar Gospel Music Awards show is Executive Produced by Don Jackson with Jennifer J. Jackson serving as Producer and Executive in Charge of Production. Michael A. Johnson served as Producer and Director, Erin Johnson as Talent Producer and Daniel Moore as Music Director.
