Erica Campbell and Roland Martin Host Urban One Honors Women Leading The Change On TV One

Urban OneHonors 2021 One SheetGrammy winning gospel recording artist Erica Campbell and journalist Roland Martin host the Third Annual Urban One Honors Women Leading The Change, Sunday, May 16th  on TV One 8 p.m. CT/9 p.m.ET. For the first time, the show will be simulcast on the network’s sister network CLEO TV.

Founded by Urban One Chairwoman Cathy Hughes, Urban One Honors this year celebrates the achievements of exemplary African American Women who are blazing trails, making new inroads and shaking up the status quo in their respective fields of expertise.

Urban One Honors’ list of honorees includes VOTING RIGHTS CHAMPION: STACEY ABRAMS, INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM CRUSADER: NIKOLE HANNAH-JONES, HEALTH EQUALITY ADVOCATE – Dr. Ala Stanford, BUSINESS ALCHEMIST – Rosalind Brewer, FAMILY NEEDS AMBASSADOR – Kim Ford, and REPARATIONS AMBASSADOR – ROBIN RUE SIMMONS.

Additionally, Urban One Honors will pay a special tribute to the International Sweethearts of Rhythm, an ethnically diverse all female jazz band. The ground breaking Sweethearts band  included founding member Helen Jones Woods, the mother of Urban One Founder, Cathy Hughes. These women faced incredible adversities during the era of segregation including racism, discrimination, and sexism. Special musical performances will be sprinkled throughout the special in tribute to the Sweethearts. RCA Inspiration recording artist Le’Andria Johnson is  among the night’s performers.

In its third year of existence, the show is executive produced by Eric Tomosunas and Robert Boyd of Swirl Films and produced by Jazz Smollet.

Urban One Honors was created to honor individuals and organizations who have had a profound impact on society and culture.
