20th Century Fox’s Breakthrough is a true story about faith, family, a mother’s love, the power of prayer and the uniting of a community under hope.
Starring Chrissy Metz as the strong, Christian mother Joyce Smith (This Is Us – NBC) with unwavering faith, Breakthrough gives a powerful account of how Joyce Smith’s son John Smith (Marcel Ruiz) came back to life after doctors as much as pronounced him dead. He fell through the ice of a frozen lake and was submerged for 15 minutes. Upon arriving arriving at the hospital he did not have a pulse. His mother, on the other hand, could not and would not accept that her son was gone. Joyce went in to prayer at John’s bedside. When the doctor’s, logic and science had given up, John miraculously came back to life.
The events took place in St. Charles, MO just outside of St. Louis. Breakthrough brilliantly shows that despite the odds, when a community unites through prayer and faith, all things are possible.
Breakthrough also stars Josh Lucas (Brian Smith – Joyce Smith’s husband), Topher Grace (Pastor Jason Nobel), Marcel Ruiz (John Smith), Dennis Haysbert (Dr. Garrett), Rebecca Staab (Cindy Reiger), Sam Trammel (Dr. Kent Sutterer) and Mike Colter (Tommy Shine).
Just in time for Easter, Breakthrough looks to pull in that huge faith-based movie going audience.
