TV One Presents Urban One Honors Awards

TV One’s first ever-Urban One Honors Awards show airs Thursday, February 28 at 8 ET/7 CT. An encore presentation follows at 10pm ET/9CT.

D.L. Hughley, Comedian and Syndicated Radio Personality of Reach Media’s The D.L. Hughley Show, serves as host of this inaugural TV One special which will honor individuals and organizations in technology, entertainment, community service, social activism and education and more.

Urban One Honors will celebrate successful catalysts for change, including Jermaine Dupri, April Ryan, Brandy, Tom Joyner, Marvin Sapp, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, DJ Khaled, June Ambrose, Doc Walker, Shaun King, Benny Pough, Jade Novah, Dr. Nadia Lopez, Rotimi, and Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton (Trayvon Martin’s parents). There will also be a special tribute to the late “Queen of Soul,” Aretha Franklin.

“All of us at Urban One are dedicated to showcasing and celebrating the very best of us…We’re providing platforms for urban content. We are in the black people business and proud of it,” said Urban One Founder and Chairperson Cathy Hughes. ”

Actress/Singer Brandy who is being presented with the Cathy Hughes Excellence Award for her commitment to excellence throughout her career, praised Ms. Hughes for “being an inspiration, an example for the culture, for all the people and epitomizing Black Girl Magic.”

Urban One Honors will feature musical performances by Marvin Sapp, K-Ci of Jodeci, Elle Varner, and viral sensation Avery Sunshine.

Presenters include Q Parker of 112, Record Executive, Tom Joyner Morning Show Senior Analyst Roland Martin, TV Personality Traci Braxton, Retired NFL Player Fred Smoot, Journalist Gia Peppers, singer Ray J, Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh, Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby, Rapper Da Brat, Producer Bryan Michael Cox, Political Commentator Symone Sanders, MGM’s Chief Diversity Officer Phyllis James, REACH Media Radio Personality Griff and Jamar Sapp.
