The Bobby DeBarge Story premieres Saturday, June 29 at 8p.m. EST/7p.m. CST on TV One. The original made for TV biopic tells the perilous story of Bobby DeBarge, the immensely talented but troubled former lead singer of the 1970s hit making R&B/Funk band Switch.

Produced by Atlanta based Swirl Films for TV One and directed by Russ Parr, The Bobby DeBarge Story delves into the life of the late Michigan native, Bobby DeBarge. Bobby, whose birth first name was Robert (like his father’s), was the eldest of ten children born in Michigan in 1956 to a US serviceman of French descent, Robert and his African American church going wife, Etterlene DeBarge. Bobby’s younger siblings were also  successful musicians and songwriters as part of the Motown hit making pop singing group, DeBarge.

Bobby was blessed with a golden falsetto voice. But despite his success on Switch hits like “There’ll Never Be” and “I Call Your Name,” Bobby fought battles with drug addiction, and emotional demons brought on by the pain of growing up in a dysfunctional family.

The Bobby DeBarge Story cast includes Roshon Fegan (Greenleaf) as Bobby DeBarge, Big Boi, Tyra Ferrell, Lloyd, Adrian Marcel and Blue Kimble. The cast does a wonderful job in giving life to their real life characters.

Eric Tomosunas and Teri DeBarge (Bobby DeBarge’s wife) executive produced The Bobby DeBarge Story while Norman Vance, Jr. wrote the script. Tune in to the drama that was the life of Bobby DeBarge, Saturday, June 29 at 8p.m. EST/7 CST. There will be an encore showing at 10 p.m. EST and 9pm CS on TV One. All you Switch and DeBarge fans are going to love this trip down memory lane.
