Nineteen-time Stellar Gospel Music Award winner, Mike McClure Jr., better known as Pastor Mike Jr., has turned his teachings into song once again with his new single, “Proof.” In this new track, the Birmingham preacher delves into the human desire for evidence to have faith in God.
Dubbed the New King of Urban Inspiration Pastor Mike Jr. has claimed the number-one single spot five consecutive times on the Billboard Gospel Airplay Charts. As he moves towards a possible fourth Artist of the Year award at the 2025 Stellar Gospel Awards, his new release aggressively approaches a rather introspective narrative. “Proof” finds its home in the chorus, “If you need a miracle. I’m proof.”
It feels like a firm answer to those asking for proof of God’s presence. At the end, the song rises in tempo and funk as Pastor Mike Jr. effectively uses an “in your face” style to express that we are all living examples of God’s “faithfulness.” He says, “Sometimes God takes you through so you can be the proof someone else needs.”
What sells the Senior Pastor and Founder of Rock City Church’s new song is how it was inspired. Earlier this year, the husband and father of five announced a series of sermons also titled Proof, in which he examines how people determine their faith in God through evidence and emotion. The award-winning spiritual leader kicked off the sermon series on Feb. 9 by dissecting the push and pull of affirmation and faith stating, “One of the greatest addictions facing our generation is the addiction to answers. It is impossible to live by faith when you can’t live without answers.”
The song, acting in tandem with the sermon series, emboldens the message Pastor Mike, Jr. is trying to send while cleverly reaching out to new listeners. With the 40th annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards set for mid-August, the pastor and musician is a solid contender for the 2025 Gospel Artist of the Year case with “Proof”.
