In Celebration of Black History Month, Lifetime will premiere the movie Pastor Brown Saturday, February 16, 2013, 8p.m. EST. The movie features some of Black Hollywood’s finest actors, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Rockmond Dunbar, Keith David, Ernie Hudson, Tasha Smith, Tisha Campbell Martin and Nicole Ari Parker.
Pastor Brown is family entertainment film about a daughter Jessica, played by Richardson-Whitfield (who also serves as a producer) , who loses her way and finds herself in a place and space she never dreamed of a long way from home but is suddenly summoned back home due to her father’s failing health. Her father, (Keith David) is a pastor whose dying wish is for Jessica to take over the helm of the church. Unresolved issues between Jessica (a former stripper) and her sister, played by Nicole Ari Parker, and her estranged son surface and drama ensues. It is a modern day re-telling of the prodigal son.
Pastor Brown was produced by Rock Capital Films with Shaun Livingston (Next Day Air) and Charles Oakley serving as executive producers. The producers are Re’Shaun Frear (Dirty Laundry), Dunbar and Carol Ann Shine (Noah’s Arc: Jumping the Broom), with a script by Rhonda F. Baraka (Trinity Goodheart). The film is the directorial debut for Dunbar.
In this interview, star Salli Richardson-Whitfield talks with me about her role in Pastor Brown, and how it really is trying to get a move done in Hollywood.
