Just Checking In From Atlanta

I’ve been on the road for two weeks. I’m now in “Hot Atlanta.”   And darlings believe me it’s been hot, with heat and scorching sun that is.   I’ve been hot since I arrived.  But you can’t beat the friendliness of the people.  I wish I could bottle them up and take them back to St. Louis with me.

Moving on, I’ve seen the Olympic Village, witnessed from a distance the Trayvon Martin rally last week – people were not deterred by the rain – attended the inaugural taping of my nephew’s (Youtube sensation Willie Moore, Jr.) new inspirational TV show, Willie Moore, Jr. Live #Flatout TV show which airs on TBN’S youth inspired channel JCTV; , stopped by Radio One’s Praise 102.5 FM, got stuck in the ATL’s horrible rush hour traffic (You all can keep that) and I even went on a trail and saw actual slave quarters behind the “big house.”  Now the latter freaked me out a little.

One of the the highlights of my visit to Atlanta has been spending time with my friend Tammy Williams and checking out her digs at her TV and Film studio, Open Rivers Pictures. Tammy is one of the first African American women Film and TV studio owners licensed in the state of Georgia. Secondly, I visited another friend who just had a double mastectomy two weeks ago.  And she is doing amazingly well and is pushing through the Chemo treatments like a champ.

Women if you know your body doesn’t feel right, or maybe you find a lump under your armpit, get it checked out.  And if your HMO says you will have to wait two months to get an appointment in to see the doctor, keep calling until someone lets you in to see a physician.  This is you taking charge of your life and you only have one you. That’s what my friend did and because she researched and bugged the HMO she was diagnosed early and is alive today.
I think I need an amen for that!

From the ATL,
Stay Inspired!
