Cicely Tyson received the Legacy Award at L.A. Focus’ First Ladies High Tea held Saturday, September 13, 2014 in Beverly Hills, California. The successful event was attended by over 1,000 people. Tyson gave an inspiring acceptance speech that touched the celebrity filled audience.
Dr. Bobby Jones of BET’s Bobby Jones Gospel and Dr. Beverly “Bam” Crawford, pastor of Bible Enrichment Fellowship International Church of Inglewood, CA served as co-hosts of the event.
Honorees included celebrities and entertainment executives from movies, television, and records. Actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw (“Belle”) received the Spirit Award. Actress Alley Mills of The Bold and the Beautiful was awarded the Shining Star Award. Music Executive Vicki Mack Lataillade was the recipient of the Focus Award. Inspirational performances were given by Grammy winning recording artist Smokie Norful and Grammy-nominated Tata Vega.
The L.A. Focus First Ladies Hi Tea of Los Angeles honors women and First Ladies who are active in their communities and with charitable organizations doing great work in various sectors of their region. This year’s honorees are Myesha Chaney, first lady of Antioch Church of Long Beach, California, Los Angeles area’s Isabelle Drake of Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church and Debra Williams of McCoy Memorial Baptist Church.
