BET, or Black Entertainment Television if you are not familiar with that acronym and you are reading this from under a rock, hosts BET Experience leading up to the BET Awards this Sunday, June 30th this weekend. I looked at the schedule and it’s almost like the Essence Festival with music, fan fest, new talent showcases, comedy show, a gospel concert to get your spirit right and the biggie, The BET Awards Show Live from the Nokia Theatre. The actual show airs live 8pm PT/ET on Sunday.
Comedian/Actor Chris Tucker is this year’s host. The honorees are NBA/Miami Heat star athlete Dwayne Wade, recipient of the State Farm Humanitarian Award, and R&B Singer/Songwriter Charlie Wilson will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Cadillac. The night’s list of appearances includes Mariah Carey, Ciara, R. Kelly, Stevie Wonder, Nicki Manaj, Justin Timberlake, Snoop Dogg and Chris Brown. Presenters include actors Gabrielle Union and Angela Bassett.
Artists with the most nominations are Drake with 12. Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz follow with eight each. A$AP Rocky has fives nods, with Justin Timberlake, Miguel and Jay-Z tied with four.
