What happens when a woman who has built her life, career, and reputation on faith finds herself facing the consequences of her cheating on her husband?
That’s the compelling question at the heart of Lifetime’s newest faith-based drama, Thou Shall Not Commit Adultery, premiering Saturday, June 6, at 8/7c.
The thought-provoking film stars Grammy Award-winning gospel artist Erica Campbell in a powerful dramatic role as Cassie Newton, a celebrated Christian feminist icon, bestselling author, and influential voice whose seemingly perfect world begins to unravel when a secret affair threatens to destroy everything she has worked to build.
Known for inspiring millions through her music and ministry, Campbell (who is also the First Lady of California Worship Center where her husband, Warryn Campbell serves as Senior Pastor) takes on one of her most challenging roles yet, portraying a woman forced to confront her own hypocrisy while navigating public scrutiny, personal shame, and the difficult road toward redemption.
CJ Williams stars as Daniel Newton, Cassie’s devoted husband whose unconditional love and commitment are tested in ways he never imagined. Rounding out the emotional love triangle is Traí Byers (Empire) as Troy Stamps, (Cassie’s bodyguard) the man whose relationship with Cassie sets off a chain of events that could permanently alter the lives of everyone involved.
As if the affair itself weren’t enough, Cassie becomes the target of a dangerous blackmail scheme. Faced with damning evidence and mounting pressure, she must decide whether to protect her carefully crafted public image or come clean and risk losing her marriage, career, and the trust of her followers.
The film explores timely themes of temptation, accountability, forgiveness, and the often-complicated intersection of faith and human imperfection. It also raises important questions about leadership, authenticity, and what happens when those we admire fall short of the standards they publicly uphold.
Adding even more star power to the cast is veteran actress and director Jasmine Guy (Different World), who portrays world-renowned empowerment speaker Anita Pierce. Former NBA champion Matt Barnes also makes his acting debut as Detective Wilson, bringing another layer of intrigue to the unfolding drama.
Directed by Patricia Cuffie Jones and written by Nneka Grestle, Thou Shall Not Commit Adultery is produced by Relevé Entertainment and Swirl Films. Executive producers include Dr. Holly Carter, Angela Shin, Keesha Brickhouse, Eric Tomosunas, Ron Robinson, and Errol Sadler.
Faith-based films continue to resonate with audiences because they tackle real-life struggles through the lens of hope, grace, and redemption. Thou Shall Not Commit Adultery appears poised to do just that, offering viewers a candid look at the consequences of poor choices while highlighting the possibility of forgiveness and restoration.
Whether you’re tuning in as a fan of Erica Campbell, faith-centered storytelling, or compelling drama, this Lifetime premiere promises an emotional journey that will spark conversation long after the credits roll. Thou Shall Not Commit Adultery premieres Saturday, June 6, at 8/7c on Lifetime and streams the next day.
