Overcomer Faith Based Movie In Theaters

Overcomer, Affirm/Sony Pictures’ latest faith-based movie arrived in theaters this week. The sixth film from the Kendrick Brothers (Alex and Stephen Kendrick), stars Priscilla Shirer (War Room), Holly A. Morris (Sleepless, Stranger Things), Aryn Wright-Thompson (War Room), Kendrick Cross (The 5th Wave, Iron Man 3) Cameron Arnett (Stand Your Ground) and Alex Kendrick (War Room, Fireproof, Courageous).

In Overcomer, Shirer plays Olivia Brooks, a high school principal. She directs the school’s basketball coach,  John Harrison played by Alex Kendrick, to teach a sport he has no experience in. In addition to playing the coach, Alex Kendrick had two more duties in Overcomer. He directed and scripted the movie about overcoming life’s obstacles with his brother Stephen Kendrick.

In the film, the sports department at the high school falls apart due to unforeseen circumstances with the team and the town’s economy which forces team members to leave town. Coach John Harrison ends up having to coach the cross-country team, and he has only one team member. That team member is Hannah, played by Aryn Wright-Thompson. And on top of that, the reluctant teen suffers from asthma.

Hannah goes through a process where she learns to believe in herself and grow stronger through her faith, as does her coach. Hannah’s process of self discovery will inspire teens today who struggle with self-confidence and their faith. Overcomer just might give them the inspiration they need.

Overcomer is a a family entertainment and faith-based film everyone will enjoy regardless of religion, gender, age or race. Overcomer is playing in theaters nationwide.
